May 10th or: the shelter

Where did I stop? In the bed? Right. Well, that's where today started off. We had a lot of sleep to catch up with. However, our host wasn't there due to an event he had to attend.

So we set off on an odyssey: buying breakfast with no actual currency. Getting out of the 14-story house we were staying in (one of the smaller buildings here) wasn't too easy, because we had to convince the guard at the door to let us back in. At least this allowed me to put my "super awesome" Portuguese skills to good use. After walking through the streets for about half an hour, we found a supermarket basically right next to our house -- and they even accepted credit card (which, as we have found out by now, is even more common than cash). Odyssey mastered.

Winter in Sao Paulo
In the afternoon, we drove around Sao Paulo, picking up some food in the mall (beans, rice, meat -- the usual) and then going to the homeless shelter, where we will be working for the next weeks. There, we did a first exercise with 8 homeless: bending springsteel wire around a coin (for those of you who don't know: there is nothing more painful and frustrating than this exercise). Some did well, some did not, but after all it was very interesting to get to know these people. It was crucial that our fellow brazilian Enactees were there, because otherwise communication would have been basically impossible.

Dinnertime. What's for dinner? Right: Rodizío. This time with pizza though. Brazilian pizza is basically like European pizza with three times as much cheese --  perfect! There's also sweet pizza, made for a great dessert. Following that was just the recovery from food coma and jetlag.
